The lifespan of a set of hair extensions is anywhere from 4-6 months long. As a result, old and worn hair extensions are likely to end up in landfills. In an effort to help protect the planet and provide a purposeful solution for used hair extensions BFB Hair has partnered with Matter of Trust.
Matter of Trust is a US based organization that works towards establishing and implementing large scale recycling programs. Through their Clean Wave Program they repurpose human hair into oil absorbent mats.
Why It's Important: On average, there are over 2,500 oil spills a year. These oil spills are conventionally cleaned up using petroleum-based polypropylene products which requires additional oil drilling. In 1999, Matter of trust Founder Lise Gautier partnered with Phil McCroy, a hairstylist and inventor, to find a better solution. Together they created the Clean Wave Program, which repurposes human hair (and human hair extensions!) into oil absorbent mats. These mats limit excessive hair waste and protect against the numerous oil spills and subsequent additional oil drilling that takes place each year.
BFB Hair's Pledge: To ensure each set of BFB Hair is responsibly discarded we have implemented our very own Sustainability Program. Send us your unwanted hair extensions and we will take care of the rest. Our team will make the extensions donation-ready by removing the clips and seamless weft adhesive. Once complete, your former hair extensions will be sent to Matter of Trust so that they can be transformed to help protect our waterways!
How You Can Take Action: Send us your unwanted hair extensions, protect the planet AND save money on your next purchase. It's a win, win!
1. Email us at email@example.com with the subject line "Sustainability Program" for a prepaid return label (valid for US customers only).
2. Ship your unwanted hair extensions back to us.
3. After we receive your hair extensions, you will be sent an email with a site wide 15% off code to use on your next purchase.
Stay Tuned: BFB Hair will send donations to Matter of Trust each quarter. For updates on the positive impact you have helped us make subscribe to our newsletter here.
